You never know which book is going to catch your eye, what recommendation a bookseller might slip into your hands, or which conversation will send you home with a title you hadn’t planned to buy. Every visit feels a little like wandering through a place built by people who genuinely love books.
Independent bookstores do so much more than sell novels. They introduce readers to new authors, host events, bring communities together, and give local writers a place to connect with the people they’re writing for.
Those places matter, and there are fewer of them than there used to be.

From now through the end of the year, I’ll be hosting a monthly giveaway inspired by one of my favorite local businesses: The Charmed Page here in Lake Charles.
The bookstore has been incredibly supportive by carrying my books and giving local authors a place on its shelves. This giveaway is simply my way of giving a little of that support back while encouraging more readers to stop in, browse the shelves, and discover everything an independent bookstore has to offer.
Why Independent Bookstores Matter
One of my favorite things about independent bookstores is that they offer something no website ever really can.
They invite you to slow down.
You can wander the shelves without a specific title in mind, ask for a recommendation, discover a book you might never have searched for online, or end up talking with someone who loves reading just as much as you do. Those little moments are part of the experience.
As an author, independent bookstores mean even more.
They give local writers a chance to put their books into readers’ hands, host signings and events, and build relationships that simply aren’t possible through an online storefront alone. When a bookstore chooses to carry books by local authors, it’s making room for stories that might otherwise be overlooked.
I’ve been fortunate enough to experience that support firsthand, and it’s something I’ll never take for granted.
Why The Charmed Page Means So Much to Me
As one of the few independent bookstores left in our area, The Charmed Page has been a wonderful supporter of local readers and authors alike.
They’ve stocked my books, welcomed local writers, and built a bookstore that feels warm and inviting from the moment you walk through the door.
I’ll never get tired of seeing one of my books sitting on those shelves. It’s one thing to upload a book online and hope readers find it. It’s something entirely different to walk into a bookstore in your own community and see your work alongside stories from authors you’ve admired for years.
That’s a feeling I’ll always be grateful for.
This monthly giveaway is my way of giving a little of that support back. I hope it encourages more readers to stop in, spend some time browsing, and maybe leave with a book they never expected to find.
